demonstrating kindness || meeting needs || impacting lives with the love of Jesus
Individuals, families, schools and churches in Madera have been involved in community service days for years. However, not until “Love Madera” came about did these groups begin to work together. Love Madera is a community service initiative for residents to give back to our city and those in need. Our first city-wide community service day on April 28, 2012 saw 400 people volunteer in a variety of projects including offering food to the hungry, visiting convalescent homes, donating blood, delivering bakes goods to our public servants and working with the city parks, among other opportunities.
Here are some of the stories:
“I am proud to say I am from Madera, CA. I am so happy that this is going on.”
“I did parking lot pick up…..worst thing (by far) that i picked up was a Styrofoam cup full of dog poop behind the old Papa Murphy’s building…. my bag smelled. Awesome experience
Loved it!”
“Had a great time this morning visiting the residents at West Gate. It was an awesome experience for my kids. Can’t wait to do it again this coming September!”
“Loving Madera with the whole family.”
So many amazing stories, but perhaps the greatest stories are all the people who now continue to regularly volunteer with the organizations and areas they served. This is our hope and prayer …renewed pride in city, on-going volunteerism and our community transformed. Loving our cities would be just a part of who we are, preferring others as Jesus does.
This is love, living in the way God commanded us to live. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is this: live a life of love. 2 John 6
